Your motorcycle’s chain is one of its most important components. Even if every other part on your model is in top condition, without a functioning chain your motorcycle will be going nowhere fast. To learn how to keep your chain in good condition and ensure it lasts as long as it should, check out our maintenance tips below.

Cleaning Products

To keep rust from corroding or gumming up your motorcycle chain you’ll need to clean it regularly-ideally every 500 to 700 miles. However, you’ll need to grab a few supplies to get the job done. While any stiff bristled brush will work, we recommend grabbing a U-brush to get the job done. You’ll also need a chain cleaner and lubricant, and a stand to support your motorcycle while you work. Don’t forget to grab a few soft towels to help wipe down your chain and apply various products.

Chain Maintenance

Before you start cleaning your chain, you’ll need to give it a quick examination. Double-check that your chain is aligned with your sprocket and that it isn’t too loose or tight. If it is, you can quickly adjust your chain with a wrench before you begin cleaning. To begin cleaning your chain, first cover it in your preferred cleaning agent and allow it to sit for a few minutes. Afterward, scrub your chain with your brush, slowly turning the back tire to access each part of the chain as you go. Afterward, wipe everything down and apply lubricant to all four sides of your chain.
