Hot Weather Motorcycle Riding Gear

The leather jacket might be the single most iconic piece of motorcycle riding gear out there. Sadly, leather jackets aren’t a very practical choice when it comes to summer riding. The dark coloration absorbs light, making you feel hotter. It doesn’t help that the leather isn’t very breathable. Protection Vs. Comfort

The motorcycle riding gear that you wear in hot weather needs to keep you cool while still providing you with adequate protection. Short sleeves are a bad choice since, while they keep you cool, they won’t protect you from road rash or sunburn. Look for long-sleeve clothing that has built-in ventilation mesh. 

Headgear

Head injuries are serious, and you should wear a DOT certified motorcycle helmet whenever you ride. If your current helmet is feeling a bit stuffy, look for an alternative that offers better ventilation or switch to a half helmet. If your current helmet lacks sun protection, invest in a decent pair of sunglasses in order to protect yourself from glaring. 

Gloves

A sturdy pair of motorcycle gloves will protect your hands in the event of an accident. At the same time, sweaty hands can make it difficult to grip your controls. Look for sturdy riding gloves with mesh paneling in order to keep your hands cool but protected. 

Bandana/Neckerchief

A bandana can be wrapped around your forehead in order to prevent sweat from dripping in your eyes. Many bikers also wear a neckerchief during hot weather. Simply wet the neckerchief, wring it out, and then tie it around your neck to keep cool. The neckerchief can be wetted again as many times as necessary. 

Cooling Vests

If you plan to ride in a lot of hot weather, consider investing in a cooling vest. These vests act like a neckerchief for your whole body. All you need to do is wet the vest, wring it out, and wear it under your jacket. Whenever things start to get a bit too hot, pull over and rewet your cooling vest.
